Tick Tock

I believe at last count it was 5 minutes to midnight. The war is not over. Temperatures rise as the economy tanks. Hurricanes. Floods. Fire. Much of it is attributable to Mother Nature... much more to the foibles of mankind. Mankind. As its numbers continue to grow, so do many species continue to disappear. Extinction. Oblivion. But why should I care? I am on this earth for only a short while, and I hope to ride out the storm (40 to 50 more years, if I'm lucky) before the clock strikes twelve. If not, courtesy. Sympathy. Taste.

Energy Czar

I read the news today oh boy! Guv Arnold Schwarzenneger will consider a future position (if offered) under Obama if he becomes President of the USA? As some sort of energy commissioner because he is deeply concerned about our environment and wants people to get serious about conservation?

Yup. This from a man who has a fleet of gas guzzling Humvees, and spends a good amount of time flying between his home in SoCal and his office in Sacramento, the state's capital. SoCal, where desert communities are sustained by the water that is diverted from the north and east.

Oh boy!

Earth Day 2008

Mark your calendars for April 22, 2008... that'd be this year's Earth Day when everyone who opts to jump on the bandwagon will be observing environmental consciousness.

I was having a fast-food breakfast this morning while reading the Sunday paper. Two young adults were leaving, getting into their Cadillac and sucking down OJ from those small waxed cardboard containers (I call them milk cartons, but go figure). The empty cartons get tossed from the car onto the parking lot just before leaving. Florida license plates, so maybe the law, or attitude, is different on the opposite coast.

While perusing the newspaper, I found this article in the Parade section.

Whatever it is we do to observe Earth Day, we should try to make it a way of life, however difficult that may seem. As Kermit the Frog has said, "it's not easy being green".
