Carbon Offsets
This is a service to offset the amount of pollution an individual emits into the environment due to his/her travels. Our governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, flies frequently between a home in Southern California and Sacramento, where he works. He also has a residence in Idaho. Other state politicians have done similar, but to me this seems to be an indulgence in guilt-cleansing where money can excuse one for any "wrongful" actions against our environment.
If it eases the conscience, it must be good.

I guess the 6-8 hour drive isn't scenic enough for him. Somebody should suggest Pea Soup Anderson's. I like their gift shop, anyway.
The carbon offsets apply to autos too; they emit pollutants, so paying $10 per ton toward the offsets will ease your conscience about dirtying up the environment. I think more effort is needed to contain it in the first place.
I haven't been by Pea Soup Andersen's in a long time. You know about the place eh?

I hate to get in the middle of your convo, but Yeah.. driven from Los Angeles to Sac (and back) way more times than any person would ever care to.
I hear cows and their methane contribute to damaging the ozone layer. Serves them right they be served up on the menu at Pea Soup Andersen's!
